Do you all like candied hawthorn berries? They're sweet and sour, quite delicious, but hard to digest. Have you ever heard of using candied hawthorn berries for group questions? I'd never heard of using candied hawthorn berries for group questions before; this is something I've never seen before.
Our Chinese teacher was on leave, so Ms. Wang from Class 10 substituted for us. Ms. Wang's teaching style was completely different from Ms. Zhai's. The candied hawthorn berry system alone was terrifying. The rules were: the teacher asked a question, and if that person couldn't answer, the teacher would ask the next person. This continued until five people couldn't answer, then a skewer of candied hawthorn berries was formed. The person's supervisor and the class representative would then stand up and answer, until only one person remained. Then, the person left had to go to the teacher's office to recite the answer, along with the person who made the skewer. Imagine going to the office to recite—it was practically a death sentence! Our class didn't have much knowledge outside of class, so we had to make three or four skewers of candied hawthorn berries every class.
Some might say, "I'm the one who suffers from the sweet and sour taste," but don't forget, it was the group leader who suffered!
