A Brief Discussion on Trust

Trust is a living feeling, a noble emotion, and a bond connecting people. You have an obligation to trust another person unless you can prove that person is not worthy of your trust; you also have the right to be trusted by another person unless you have been proven unworthy of their trust.

I once read a story in the newspaper: A Chinese student was shopping in a Western country's X country. When paying, in addition to a banknote, she gave the cashier some coins. The cashier took the coins and asked, "Have you counted them?" After receiving an affirmative answer, the cashier put the coins directly into the cash box. The student was surprised and asked the cashier, "Why didn't you count them?" The cashier smiled and said, "Didn't you already count them? That's enough, I trust you." The fact that a Chinese student could gain the trust of a stranger abroad deeply moved and shocked her. To repay this trust, in the future, when she needed to pay with coins, she would carefully count the coins, fearing that she might make a mistake and betray that trust. In fact, this is not just trust, but also respect—respect between strangers, respect from business owners to consumers.

This trust between strangers from different countries is touching; how much humanity needs the warmth of such trust. In today's bustling cities, people come and go, shoulder to shoulder, yet remain remarkably indifferent. The real barriers are the obstacles people build within their own hearts. If people had just a little more love and trust, there would be no more doubts, no more estrangement, and we could truly realize the vision of "friends all over the world."

Once, rushing to attend an event out of town, I went to a hair salon near my workplace. Since I didn't have change, I handed over a 100-yuan note. The shampoo girl gave the money to the owner, who glanced at me and said, "Don't give me change now; pay me next time!" "Oh? You trust me? If I don't come back, won't you lose money?" I consciously asked him. He said, "Although this is your first time here, I trust you. I don't think you're that kind of person. Besides, what's lacking between people is trust. Once there's trust, my business will definitely boom." His few words were powerful and reassuring.

It was a small matter of a few dollars, but even a drop of water can reflect the sun's brilliance. This small incident revealed the barber shop owner's "wisdom" and "magnanimity." If I stopped coming to this barbershop, he might only lose a few dollars—a drop in the ocean for the shop—while I would lose someone's trust and my own integrity. It was clearly a case of losing a watermelon for a sesame seed, completely disproportionate! Since I was out of town and couldn't return that day, I called a friend the next day to ask them to deliver the money. The owner was moved by this honesty and thanked me profusely, making my friend a little embarrassed.

This trust led me to choose this place, and from then on, I went to this hair salon for my haircuts. He earned more than just a few yuan or tens of yuan; he earned the respect of his customers, which translated into positive word-of-mouth, making his business thrive. Moreover, he gained a permanent customer. This is a testament to trust, a virtuous cycle, a domino effect of success!

This reminds me of the story of "a promise worth a thousand pieces of gold":

At the end of the Qin Dynasty, there was a man named Ji Bu who always kept his word and had an excellent reputation. Many people liked to be his friend because of his sincerity and trustworthiness, and the friendships he formed were deep. There was even a proverb at the time: "A promise from Ji Bu is worth more than a hundred pounds of gold." This shows that Ji Bu's promise was worth a thousand pieces of gold. (This is the origin of the idiom "a promise worth a thousand pieces of gold.") Later, he offended Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, and a reward was offered for his capture. His old friends were not tempted by the large reward but risked the extermination of their entire families to protect him, ultimately saving him from disaster and ensuring his safe escape. Honesty and trustworthiness naturally attract help and earn respect and friendship. Conversely, if one is greedy for temporary comfort or petty gains and breaks faith with friends, one may superficially gain "benefits," but for these small gains, one ruins one's reputation, which is far more important than material possessions. Therefore, for a truly honest person, breaking faith is a losing proposition.

Whether it's a big or small matter, regardless of the amount of money, gaining trust is a blessing, a blessing that moves people.

Being trusted by others is a blessing. When others think of you in despair and believe you will offer help, it is an even greater shock and encouragement!

A cargo ship was sailing on the vast Atlantic Ocean. A black boy working odd jobs at the stern accidentally fell into the turbulent waters. The boy cried for help, but the wind and waves were too strong, and no one on board heard him. He watched helplessly as the cargo ship, trailing whitecaps, drifted further and further away…

The instinct for survival drove the boy to struggle desperately in the icy water. He waved his thin arms with all his might, feeling himself sinking. "Give up," he told himself. Then he remembered the old captain's kind face and friendly eyes. "No! The captain will definitely come to save me after he knows I've fallen into the sea!" With that thought, the child mustered his courage and swam forward with the last of his strength…

The captain finally realized the black child was missing. After determining the child had fallen into the sea, he overcame all obstacles and decisively decided—to turn back and search! Just as the child was about to sink, the captain finally arrived and rescued him.

The child knelt before the captain and said, "I knew you would come to save me, you definitely would!"

"How do you know I would definitely come to save you?" the captain asked, puzzled.

"Because I know you are that kind of person!" the child answered confidently.

These words brought tears to the old captain's eyes…

Without this trust, without the unwavering belief in the captain's character, without the immense support of trust, the child might have already sunk to the bottom of the sea!

Gaining trust is difficult; one's methods and principles are the foundation for acquiring trust. Trust can arise from tacit cooperation between people, but this trust is superficial and shallow. It must withstand scrutiny and the test of time; trust is a process of "negation of negation." When you face adversity, danger, despair, or illness and helplessness, the person who stays by your side is the one truly worthy of trust. Trust gained in this way is invaluable, a connection of hearts, and must be cherished with one's whole heart and soul, even with one's life.

The most outstanding example of trust is Liu Bei in *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*. He was "magnanimous and generous, good at recognizing and employing people," never doubting his loyal subordinates. Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, and Zhuge Liang almost together wrote an unparalleled legend. Therefore, Liu Bei's empire is considered a model of kinship and unity. Guan Yu, willing to forgo the lavish rewards of his troops, braved five passes and slew six generals, enduring countless hardships to return to Liu Bei's banner; Zhang Fei, willing to fight tooth and nail to conquer a city, awaiting Liu Bei's arrival as its master; Zhao Yun, willing to risk his life, single-handedly stormed the enemy camp, fighting relentlessly to rescue Liu Bei's son, A Dou, vowing to protect Liu Bei's family to the death; Zhuge Liang, entrusted with Liu Bei's dying wish, devoted himself to the cause until

his dying breath. The cornerstone of Liu Bei's leadership was trust above kinship, thus leaving behind a lasting legacy! Once trust is established, the interests of both parties are always aligned. When you achieve success and become complacent, he will promptly temper your arrogance; when things are going smoothly, he will rush to help you fill in the gaps; when you become self-deprecating and stagnant, he will painstakingly help you regain your confidence; when you achieve great success, he will silently cheer for you and offer his blessings!

Gaining trust is not easy, but losing it can happen in an instant if it is not cherished. The story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" is a prime example. If the shepherd boy hadn't lied time and time again, thus losing people's trust, the story wouldn't have ended in tragedy.

The loss of trust is terrifying. When mutual trust is lost, even face-to-face interactions become unbearable. The most eloquent explanations are powerless, and the most sincere actions are futile. In a world devoid of trust, hypocritical flattery permeates life, life becomes lifeless, the flower of friendship withers, and the fruit of kinship falls. A world without trust is filled with foul air, permeated with a decaying atmosphere. People distrust each other, and hearts close their doors—it's truly terrifying! In *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*, Cao Cao, inherently suspicious, killed Hua Tuo after believing Hua Tuo intended to assassinate him during a craniotomy. In *Tracks in the Snowy Forest*, the real-life inspiration for the famous hero Yang Zirong was mistaken for a bandit, suffering injustice and political pressure on his family, leading to a difficult life. In the TV series *Special Mission*, the protagonist, Gong Weiping, infiltrates the enemy, but due to the sacrifice of his contact, no one can verify his identity, leading to numerous dangers and perilous situations.

We yearn for this kind of trust: a relaxed brow, a smile, a quick walk to a friend, a firm handshake: "Sincere congratulations!" This handshake warms the heart, this blessing feels like a spring breeze, and a cloud of joy shines in your heart. Sowing trust is the right attitude towards life. Stay away from deceit and cunning, avoid worldly slickness, cultivate more sincere emotions, offer more trusting smiles, and shower forth the sweet rain of integrity. This will nurture the most beautiful flowers of life, and you will gain not only the trust of friends, but also—a

    world .

Trust is a necessary condition for communication between people. The greatest fortune in life is to be trusted; the greatest regret is to lose the trust of others.

Between lovers, once someone ignores, disregards, or remains indifferent to your actions, trust has been lost and the relationship is in crisis. Even with ten or a hundred times the effort to repair it, a full recovery is not guaranteed. Some things, once possessed, will be lost forever, never to be regained.

Between officials and the masses, once the masses lose trust in their leaders, they will become depressed, passively resist work, and lose their former sense of ownership. Therefore, an official should strive to benefit the people in their jurisdiction. A leader must possess the courage to recognize talent and discern virtue, providing opportunities for capable individuals rather than trapping them in deep pools or forcing them into hardship. This allows both individuals to fully utilize their abilities and skills, thus attracting local talent and gathering capable individuals from all directions.

Between teachers and students, sincerity and trust are paramount. As a poet once said, "Appreciation is the sunshine in life, a catalyst for leaps in life's value." If we give a child a bright smile, a loving touch, or a kind word of encouragement, we believe that the eyes of an appreciated child will hold something more: trust! Trust is

even more crucial between businesses and customers. Trust eliminates customer doubts, allowing them to confidently purchase and use products, thus protecting their fundamental interests and enabling businesses to achieve higher profits. Businesses are ships, customers are sails, and trust is the wind that propels them forward. With the wind of trust, there is the guarantee of overcoming all obstacles!

    Trust

is a bridge that connects hearts, allowing them to communicate; trust is a gentle stream that nourishes everyone's heart; trust is fresh air that soothes the soul; trust is a powerful adhesive that brings two unrelated hands together to form a united force.

There's a kind of meeting that feels like a long-awaited encounter.

When     I first arrived in this city, the weather was a hazy, grayish white. It was already the height of summer, and there was a humid, stifling heat.     At the subway exit, I saw Mo Xiaobei struggling to find me in the crowd. She took my suitcase, then pretended to be incredibly strong, smiling happily at me and revealing her cute little tiger teeth. I followed Mo Xiaobei through several subway stops until we finally arrived at her rented room. The moment I opened the door, it felt like I had entered a disaster zone. Just as I had imagined, her room was a mess. Several pairs of shoes were scattered haphazardly on the floor, and bottles and jars were strewn about on the table, along with leftover food that had been moldy for days. I turned to look at Mo Xiaobei, who scratched her head sheepishly. "I haven't cleaned the house these past few days. Since you're here, could you help me tidy up?" I knew she was always like this, so I shook my head h...

Five-degree slanted characters (Part 2)

Chi Zhoumu played three games of League of Legends in a row. Whenever he encountered a problem he couldn't figure out, he had to shift his focus to prevent himself from being trapped by his chaotic thoughts. After the three games, Chi Zhoumu stared at the computer for a long time, lost in thought. "No, I have to go out for a walk and relax," Chi Zhoumu thought to himself. When Chi Zhoumu went out, it was already past eight o'clock in the evening. The streetlights emitted a quiet, dim yellow light, and only a few people were running on the playground. The moonlight was faint, casting overlapping shadows, and the road was deserted. He went to the pavilion, sat down on a bench, and lazily admired the reflection of the library lights on the lake. Two or three couples were scattered on the small island in the lake. "It's hard to find such peace and harmony in the bustling city," he thought. After sitting for about twenty minutes, just as he was ...

Looking up at the starry sky

The night is deep, and I can't fall asleep alone. I open the window and see the twinkling stars, but are you the brightest one?     I remember the first time I saw you was in my final year of junior high. I stood nervously behind you, watching my classmates register one by one, and my name was left unassigned. Yes. I was timid and cowardly, and because I didn't have the money for tuition, I didn't dare to speak to you. I just stood there, standing there.     Later, you noticed me, smiled slightly, and asked, "Have you registered?" I shook my head. You asked again, "Are you having trouble?" I nodded. "Come with me!" When I took out my blankets from a corner of the school, I saw tears in your eyes; and I couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears. You took the blankets, took my hand, and walked towards the dormitory building.     I've always thought of myself as a stubborn child, someone no one could melt the thick ice in my hea...
